In South Florida, the Burmese Python has eaten 98% of the mammals in the Everglades. The situation is dire, as this invasive species is an apex predator that feeds constantly on the indigenous wildlife with nothing to stop them. FWC & South Florida Water Management have hired Python Elimination Specialists like Donna to hunt, catch, and eliminate these snakes.

The Everglades Avengers Team

Donna Kalil is the leader of the Everglades Avenger Team. After catching her first Florida Burmese python on Christmas night 2015 with her family in tow, she has eliminated more than 700 pythons from South Florida Ecosystems. Several had up to 75 eggs in them! "The impact that these invasive animals are having on our wildlife is astounding and every one we eliminate from our natural ecosystem is a step in the right direction".

SFWM- Python Elimination Program

The South Florida Water Management District Governing Board is taking aggressive action to protect the Everglades and eliminate invasive pythons from across the landscape. The Python Elimination Program started in 2017 and incentivizes a limited number of public-spirited individuals to humanely euthanize these destructive snakes which have become an invasive apex predator in the Everglades. The program provides access to python removal agents on designated lands in Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier, Hendry, Lee, and Palm Beach counties.

FWC - Python Action Team

The FWC's Python Action Team - Removing Invasive Constrictors (PATRIC) engages qualified individuals with nonnative constrictor control efforts. After this program launched in spring 2017, the number of Burmese pythons removed from the wild increased. The PATRIC program works in tandem with a sister program, the South Florida Water Management District’s Python Elimination Program. Together, contractors from these two agencies have removed more than 55% of the over 16,000 Burmese pythons removed from the wild in Florida as of the end of 2022.
